I will say in advance, we disapprove sanctions against Qatar: Erdogan

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that I would like to say in advance that we disapprove of the sanctions against Qatar. This development, coming at a time when we need solidarity and cooperation more than ever, does not benefit any country in the region. The best way for the GCC members to resolve their disputes is through dialogue.

President was speaking in fast-breaking dinner where Prime Minister Binali Yildirim and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu were also present.

Erdogan further said, We welcome and appreciate Qatar’s cool-headed and constructive attitude. We closely know that Qatar effectively fights against terrorist organizations. And trying to isolate Qatar like that will not contribute to resolving any problem. We will continue to improve our relations with Qatar and all our friends, whose strong support we have always felt during most difficult times, the July 15 coup attempt in particular. We are prepared to do our due in order to resolve other countries’ problems with Qatar.

“I have initiated contacts on this matter yesterday. First I spoke by phone with Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim and expressed our regret over the developments. Then I spoke with King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia, President Vladimir Putin of Russia, Kuwait Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah. Today, I spoke by phone with President Macron of France, Prime Minister Hariri of Lebanon, King Abdullah of Jordan, President Widodo of Indonesia about the same matter. We will continue our talks tomorrow and over the next days. We are doing all we can to resolve the crisis in the Gulf as soon as possible. And I hope all sanctions against Qatar will be lifted as soon as possible. Because, I see describing Qatar as a terror suspect as a truly gross accusation. Because, I have gotten to know them very well during my 15-year-long term as the Prime Minister and the President. Otherwise, if this had been the case, I would have been the first president to stand against them. And there is a different game being played here. However, we have not been able to identify who is behind it.”, He said.
