The world is bigger than 5, Erdogan reiterated in Jamia Malia Islamia Dehli

President Erdoğan said: “What is expected from the U.N. Security Council? Justice. Is there justice in the U.N. Security Council at the moment? There is no such thing. When Erdoğan says that, he becomes harsh and unloved. Well, if the oppressed and the wronged in the world love us, it is enough for us,” at an honorary doctorate degree presentation ceremony at Jamia Millia Islamia University in India.

Pointing to problems across the world such as, political and economic instabilities, income inequalities, poverty, youth unemployment, irregular migration and terror, President Erdoğan underscored: “No country can handle these problems alone. They can only be resolved with the joint efforts of all countries. Turkey approaches all these problems with a foreign policy understanding that centers on people and conscience. We act under the guidance of the principle ‘Let the people live so that the state will live’, we have inherited from our long-established state tradition. We believe international stability and peace can be achieved only in a fair system.”

“We should start restoring justice with the structures of international organizations responsible for resolving problems. Especially the structure of the U.N. Security Council must be reformed immediately. For instance, who can say that the Security Council, which does not have India, one of the most important countries in the world with a population of 1.3 billion people, has a healthy structure? How fair can a Security Council be where 1.7 billion Muslims are not represented?” President Erdoğan said, and added: “These irregularities underlie my long-voiced objections that ‘The world is bigger than 5’.”

“How can we leave the fate of the entire world to the hand of 5 countries?” the President asked, and further stated: “The U.N. Security Council’s structure was formed under post-WWI and WWII circumstances. If a council member says ‘no’ to a decision, that decision cannot be made. What is expected from the U.N. Security Council? Justice. Is there justice in the U.N. Security Council at the moment? There is no such thing. When Erdoğan says that, he becomes harsh and unloved. Well, if the oppressed and the wronged in the world love us, it is enough for us.”
